In 1991 the Los Angeles Police Chief Darryl Gates, who is white, ordered the beating of African motorist Rodney King. It was believed by the LAPD that he was a relative of Martin Luther King. The attack was recorded by an African observer and the videotape of this crime was given to socially conscious media who rightly condemned the attack and demanded justice.
The white officers who attacked King were acquitted and what resulted was the African Rebellion of 1992. Gates did what he could to oppress the people and to kill Africans but his efforts failed.
Now in 2006, the Bush regime has given another Gates power to wage war and to target Africans: Robert Gates, the new so-called Secretary of “Defense” (one of the most ironic titles of all time).
This is nothing but a slap in the face to all Africans and people of color.
We demand justice.
