Wise words from one of my students

The following is from an essay one of my students wrote in my African World Cultures class this semester:

"I may have been born in a land called the United States by its government but I have always been African. I am not American but African. I cannot be something which rejects me or hates me. I can only be what I am and where my blood is from. Africa is my past, present and future. The world owes its beginnings to Africa. Without America, the world is better. Without Africa, the world is nothing."

right, how do i start? firstly i was born in britain but my ancestors were vikings, does that mean that i am scandinavian? no i am british and proud of it, it dosent matter where your far ancestors come from, if your family has lived somewhere for generations then you are part of that country. secondly america has much better things to do then hate black people, black people have been occupying places of power for decades now (for example condeliza rice and colin powel) and it is looking increasingly likely that the next presdent will be black. on top of that the government is currently trying to rectify some of it's mistakes of the past through affirmative action, reparations and other such systems. thirdly africa has thus far played little role in human development, it was mesopotania and the general middle eastern area that spawned the wheel, written language and civilisation. africa for the most part consisted of hunter gatherer societies due to the fact that africa lacks arable land in any good quantity unlike europe, asia and america, and without arable land there is no chance for primitive societies to develop. fourthly without america the world would be in chaos as not only is it currently fighting terrorism all over the world but it is funding development and charities in third world countries. without africa the world would be pretty much exactly the same exept there would be a few less brutal dictaors.

I don't get the joke in this one. Is it that you're an "African World Cultures" teacher?

Anyway, I only give this post 2/10 points, because it's not really funny like the others.

Sorry.

Okay, I'm back, because I finally figured out where the satire was in this post. It's where you wrote (under the guise of a "student", of course): "a land called the United States by its government"

The snide implication that the country isn't actually called that, is subtle, but it's your way of saying that we should give to this writing all the attention that is due to anyone who is so clueless they don't even know the name of their birth country.

It's not as funny as some of your other satire, but at least now that I get it, the post is funnier!

So, if you perceive hate from someone (America), then it is right and correct to teach hatred. Got it. It took me a while, but I got it.

Listen, spreading hate helps no one, not yourself, and not your beloved African continent. If you'd like to help, teach your students love.

Fostering hate leads to war(s), and more dead people. If you like to see people worked up and angry, then you're well on your way. Nice job. However, don't blame the U.S. when your country has a civil war ... that would be your doing.

To the anonymous Britain posting on 4/20/2008, to suggest that terrorism is a massive world influence is to suggest one's senses align with fallacy. The amount of casualties and the economic impact stemming from terrorism isn't created solely from radical Muslims, as it seems their existence will always have a foothold in the relevant theaters of engagement in the world.

The simple fact is, is that U.S. policy is what has upset the boundaries of these Muslims in regard to their decisions for rebellious action. The Iran-Contra affair, the Iran-Iraq war, the unmitigated support for Israel (that of which is only an EU/American backed nation), all of those things are factors which form a causal mode of reason for the extremist Jihadis circulating throughout the globe.

Their numbers, the radical Islamic fundamentalists, are little, and always will be -- and so too their impact. To exert the economy under the burden of efforts taken in order to attempt a subjugation of unruly bounds is to service only private interests in lieu of a suffering domestic, political paradigm, one that we all experience here in America and abroad.

Easy answer is to f-off back to Africa and starve to death. Live in the slums and prey that you see your nexy birthday. Will this 'tard go back to Africa? no way, they are dependant on the means and the wealth of the white man, f-it, they are too dependant on the means and wealth of all races, not just white men. Go back to Africa if they feel that way........
