Since 2008 the students in my classes have been enthused with a greater energy and hope with the ascension of President Obama. Fear and distrust has been replaced with hope and confidence for the future. Pride in our African heritage has swelled along with a greater curiosity about Africa and its role in shaping the world that we live in today.
Before he was elected I told President Obama about the legend of Amon-Ra, a God of ancient Egypt who attained the characteristics of all other gods. I told him that he reminded me of Amon-Ra because he has the ability to appeal to many people for various reasons. He also has the wisdom, the courage, the foresight and the sense of justice that many of our African gods possessed. Obama is also the son of African kings and queens and some of them were descendents of the gods. So is Obama himself a god?
This possibility has been a source of much excitement among my fellow academics and students alike and I look forward to exploring the issue this semester.

Wow, well now that it is 2011 and he's attacking Libya and soon Syria, you must really feel dumb. You cannot truly be an educator? If so, it is very scary indeed! I am not racist and I am not white but to do this type of disservice to African Americans is just sad, it's why people think you are not as smart as the asians, whites and other races.
